Blue Ridge Books honors...Banned Books!

by Blue Ridge Books on 08/30/13

Can you guess what the books on our front display have in common??? *drum roll please*

They are all banned books!!

Banned Books Week is an annual event in September celebrating the freedom to read.   The week is to observe and raise awareness of the value of free and open access to information.  All of the books in our front display have been banned at some point in time and in some place (library, school, etc.).  We display them to emphasize the freedom to seek and to express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular.

Meet Sam Kaufman

Waynesville resident Sam Kaufman returns to Blue Ridge Books to record a live acoustic set and poetry reading.  A local artist, Sam is 18 years old and will be playing both original and cover songs, as well as reading his own poetry.  The recording will later be available both online and as a CD.
